Prenatal diagnosis of congenital rubella.

چکیده
Rubella contracted in early pregnancy is associated with a high frequency of congenital anomalies in the infant. Viral transmission occurs in overt as well as occult maternal illness with or without a rise in maternal rubella antibody titres. It is thus both difficult and important to determine whether the fetus has become infected in utero. One approach is to isolate rubella virus from amniotic fluid, another immunoglobulin measurements. The development of sensitive haemagglutination inhibition (HI) tests has enabled us to establish normal levels for IgA, IgA,, IgA2, IgM, IgG, and IgD in amniotic fluid throughout gestation and investigate immunoglobulin levels in amniotic fluid as a diagnostic tool in detecting intrauterine infections.'

Diagnostic value of reverse transcription-PCR of amniotic fluid for prenatal diagnosis of congenital rubella infection in pregnant women with confirmed primary rubella infection.
The diagnostic value of RT-PCR of amniotic fluid (AF) for prenatal diagnosis of congenital rubella virus infection in 45 pregnant women with confirmed primary infection was assessed. Specificity of RT-PCR was 100% and sensitivity ranged between 83 and 95%.
متن کاملFirst trimester prenatal diagnosis of congenital rubella: a laboratory investigation.
Acute primary maternal infection with rubella virus during pregnancy often, but not invariably, leads to the congenital rubella syndrome. Diagnosis by detection of virus specific IgM in the mother is not always possible, and in those cases in which IgM is detected the fetus has not necessarily also been infected. A method for direct, prenatal detection of fetal infection would allow more accura...

PCR for detection of rubella virus RNA in clinical samples.
A reverse transcription nested PCR (RT-PCR) assay for the detection of rubella virus RNA using primers from the E1 open reading frame was established. This assay was found to be sensitive (detecting approximately two synthetic RNA copies and RNA extracted from 0.1 50% tissue culture infective dose of rubella virus) and specific; five wild-type rubella strains and four vaccine strains were detec...
متن کاملIntracranial epidural hematoma in a newborn with DIC secondary to congenital rubella
Epidural hematoma in newborns is rare, it occurs more frequently in infants born from nulliparous mothers with delivery difficulties. Intracranial hemorrhage in infants is usually secondary to vascular malformations, anticoagulation, inherited or acquired coagulopathy. Hematological disorders are infrequently associated with congenital rubella. The main defects of the disease associate deafness...
